“Are You Ready For That Great Day?”  Written by Betty Howard, Copyright 2006 by Library of Congress (United States Copyright Office).

Jesus died on the cross to save our sinful souls.  But it’s up to us to make heaven our goal.  You can’t live an ungodly life and think with God that’s okay.  What you gonna tell Him when you see Him face to face.

Are you ready for that Great Day?  Are you ready for that Great Day?  Do you do things God’s way?  Are you ready?  Are you ready for that for that Great, Great Day?

Take time to read the Bible, learn what God said.  Let your heart walk by faith ev’ry day.  God will supply your daily bread.  Keep you safe through the storm.  When you do wrong, God will forgive and give you another chance.  (To the Chorus)

It’s time to make a choice, who are you gonna serve?  The Almighty God or demons of the world.  No matter what you have done in the past, God still loves you.  He wants you to serve Him with a heart that’s pure and true.  (Sing the Chorus 2 times)

You better get ready for that Great Day.  You better get ready for that Great Day.  Learn to do things God’s way.  Get ready, get ready for that Great, Great Day.  (Repeat 4 Times) Get ready, get ready for that Great, great Day.

“Lord Hear My Cry: Make Me Over Again”  Written by Betty Howard, Copyright 2006 by Library of Congress (United States Copyright office).

Lord I’m your child.  Take me by the hand and teach me ev’ry day, to follow your ev’ry command.  Mold me and make me new born again.  I’m ready to serve you ev’ry day.

You’re all I need.  You’re all I need to make my life compete.  Lord hear my cry, and make me over again.  Lord hear my cry and make me over again.

In my darkest hour hear my sinner’s prayer.  I’m counting on you Lord to take away all of my sins.  Clean me and fill me with the Holy Spirit.  I’m ready to give up ungodly things.               (To the Chorus)

Lord remove the mountains and lift my weary soul.  Give me a new vision to make my life sacred and whole.  Show me the path that I need to take, to be a true servant ev’ry day.      (To the Chorus)

Lord make me over again, (Make me over) Lord make me over again. (Make me over)  Renew my heart, renew my spirit.  (Make me over) Give me the courage to resist temptation. (Make me over) Give me the strength to keep holding on.  (Make me over) Lord make me over again.  (Make me over) I’m begging you Lord, please make me over again.  (Make me over) I want to serve you to the end.  (Make me over, my sweet Lord) Lord make me over again.  (Make me over, Oh my Lord) Lord make me over again.

“Oh What A Joyful Reunion We Will Have”  Written by Betty Howard, Copyright 2010 by Library of Congress (United States Copyright Office).

It’s so hard to say goodbye to our love ones.  The good times we had together outweighed the bad.  One day we’ll be together in heaven.  Oh what a joyful reunion we will have, when we all meet in heaven someday.  Oh what a joyful reunion we will have, when we all meet in heaven someday.

Although you’re gone, sweet memories still linger on.  We’re keeping you close to our hearts.  We still love you.  One day we’ll be together in heaven.  Oh what a joyful reunion we will have, when we all meet in heaven someday.  Oh what a joyful reunion we will have, when we all meet in heaven someday.

Lord bless our family.  Give us enough strength to keep holding on.  Have mercy on the next generation, and show them where they belong.

As we leave to go our separate ways, unite our hearts with love.  And give us peace ev’ry day.  We still believe one day we’ll be together in heaven.  Oh what a joyful reunion we will have, when we all meet in heaven someday.  Oh what a joyful reunion we will have, when we all meet in heaven someday. Type your paragraph here.

Betty Howard

About

After 2 years of arranging and recording at Kena Naya Productions, the awesome  “God’s Amazing Love” CD was produced.  The 12 track album has 3 traditional hymns, 4 inspirational classics, 2 spirituals and 3 original songs.  All of the songs were meticulously arranged by Betty Howard to create her unique music style of gospel music.

When Betty puts her own spin on a song, she always remains true to the basic melody of song.  Occasionally, she uses “blue notes” (notes from the blues scale) to add flavor and color to the melody.  Examples of this can be found in her arrangement of Edwin Hawkins’ “Oh Happy Day,” Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson’s “One Day At A Time” and the spiritual “There Is A Balm In Gilead.”

To create variety in her music, Betty uses the violin, flute, saxophone and guitar to play bluesy riffs and improvise jazzy solos.  “Go Down Moses” is a good example of this.  The beautiful exotic sounds played on the saxophone took the recording of this song to a higher level of interpretation as the driving bass guitar outlined the walking movements of Moses going to Egypt.  In addition, Guy Ben Murphrey, Betty’s producer, arranged powerful parts for the brass quartet which created a strong harmony background for “Go down Moses” and other songs on the album.  Doing this also helped the musicians create the Big Band Sound which is heard on some of the other tracks of this album.

Betty Howard described her music as Sweet Gospel with a Touch of the Blues.  She uses her resonant singing voice to sing songs that convey messages of love, joy, hope and eternal life.  It is her desire that listening to the songs on “God’s Amazing Love” CD may encourage people to live a godly life and do everything within their power to get ready for that Great Day.

CD  Review:  “GOD’S  AMAZING  LOVE”  BY  BETTY  HOWARD

Betty Howard, a songwriter, musician, and retired music teacher was born and raised in Houston, Texas.  She comes from a family of six children.  Her parents were both from East Texas, but moved to the Houston area.  She started taking piano lessons at the age of 10.  Throughout her childhood and adult life, she sang with local church and school choirs.  Presently, Betty sings with the Foundry United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.

Growing up in Acres homes, which is in Northwest Houston, Betty attended elementary, junior and senior high schools in the Aldine Independent School District.  During her senior year, her parents moved to Third Ward, and Betty graduated from Jack Yates High School.    After graduating from high school, she went to Texas Southern University where she earned two degrees, Bachelor of Music (All-Level) and a Master of Education.  Throughout her college undergraduate training, she sang with the Texas Southern University Choir and the Women’s Glee Club.

Using her degrees from Texas Southern, Betty taught music and fine arts in the North Forest Independent School District for 26 years and the same subjects in Houston Independent School District for nine years.  After 35 years of teaching, Betty retired in 2004.  During her teaching career, she composed original songs and also arranged many songs for her kindergarten through twelfth grade students to sing for school and other special programs.

Singers like Aretha Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Ray Charles and Reverend James Cleveland have influenced the music of Betty Howard.  To make a long story short, Betty described her music as “Sweet Gospel with a Touch of the Blues.”  She used her resonant singing voice to sing songs that convey messages of hope, love, joy, and eternal life.  It is her desire that listening to the songs on her “God’s amazing Love” CD may encourage people to live a more godly life and do everything within their power to get ready for that Great Day.

I highly recommend that you listen to Betty Howard’s “God’s Amazing Love” album on Pandora.com and let her music soothe your soul with beautiful sounds from heaven.  It is one album that will truly make a great contribution to your CD collection.  The soulful, bluesy gospel style will leave you yearning to play the album again and again.  Betty decided to record her debut gospel CD “God’s Amazing Love” at Kena Naya Productions in Tomball, Texas in 2012.  The 12 track album consist of:

1.     Three traditional hymns (“Amazing Grace,” “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah,” and “Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior.”)

2.     Four inspirational classics (“Oh Happy Day,” “One Day At A Time,” “The Impossible Dream,” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”)

3.     Two spirituals (“Go Down Moses.” and “There Is A Balm In Gilead.”)

4.     Three original songs by Betty Howard (“Are You Ready For That Great Day,” “Lord Hear My Cry: Make Me Over Again,” and “Oh What A Joyful Reunion We Will Have”)

All the songs were meticulously arranged by Betty Howard to create her unique style of music.  When Betty puts her spin on a song, she always remains true to the basic melody of the song, occasionally adding “blue notes” (notes from the blues scales) to add flavor and color to the melody.  Examples of this can be found in her arrangement of Edwin Hawkins’ “Oh Happy Day,” Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson’s “One Day At A Time” and the spiritual “There is A Balm In Gilead.”

To create variety in her music, Betty used the violin, flute, saxophone, and guitar to play bluesy riffs and improvise jazzy solos.  “Go Down Moses” is a good example of this.  The beautiful exotic sounds played on the saxophone took the recording to a higher level of interpretation as the driving bass guitar outlined the walking movements of Moses going to Egypt.  In addition, Guy Ben Murphrey, Betty’s producer arranged powerful parts for the brass quartet which created a strong harmony background for “Go Down Moses” and other songs on the album.  Doing this also helped the musicians create the Big Band Sound which is heard on some of the other tracks of this album.

Making the “God’s Amazing Love” CD has been a very rewarding experience for Betty Howard.  It is her desire that some of the songs on the CD will encourage people to develop a personal relationship with God and do everything within their power to get ready for that Great Day.

Finally, Betty Howard has started working on her first video for the song “Lord Hear My Cry:  Me Over Again.”   The video filming will be at different locations in the city of Houston.  She plans to make a colorful video that depicts the story of the song in a very special way.  Hopefully, the video will be posted on You Tube in the near future.  In the meantime, continue to enjoy her beautiful music on Pandora.com and Jango.com.  “God’s Amazing Love” is an awesome CD.
